I’m reading a novel called “Things My Girlfriend and I have argued about” by Mil Millman and although I’m just a tad into it, I already found myself chortling aloud (how’s that for a nifty phrase) whilst reading it.
Here’s my favorite paragraph so far (not necessarily for the humor – I just like it):
“My natural condition, where I settle if not heated by events, is tepid. I’m happy to drift along at room temperature, equidistant from both Manic’s crackling flames and Depressive’s chill waters. TSR, however, is someone whose proximity alone is enough to double the volume on my nerves. Some people just “give off” moods. That, I suppose, is what’s called charisma. I don’t have charisma. I am double jointed – I can bend my thumbs back until they touch my upper forearms – which I like to think is pretty close to charisma, though.”
I am a total sucker for brit humor. I just try to “hear” Eddie’s voice in my head while reading it and it works perfectly!
1. What are 3 embarrassing moments or things that have happened to you?
Um, talking about a girl horribly (this was back in HS – I never do that now, mind you) and closing my locker to find her standing right on the other side of it.
Having my skirt blow up by the wind on a crowded platform at lunchtime. (Yey for underwear!)
-and-
Making out in my HS’s boyfriends bedroom when his parents come home unexpectedly. He made me hide in the closet and then had to get his sister (fortunately, one of my friends) to distract his parents so I could sneak out. He thought it was a riot. Me, not so much.
2. What are 3 phrases or words you say when something good happens to you?
OH.MY.GOD. (how valley-speak of me, I know)
NO WAY!
“The universe has spoken”
3. What are 3 phrases or words you say when something bad happens to you?
Well, fuckety!
What was that all about?
“The universe has spoken”
BONUS: What is something that has happened to you that was bad, but actually changed your life for the better?
Getting fired by a company for a small mistake and being hired by Legg Mason which eventually led me to Richmond, Hollinger and other fun things and friends.
