Well, hello there kids …
I found a cd I made a bit ago (that, amazingly, does not contain the requisite 5 songs) and one of the songs on it was “One Nation Under a Groove” by Parliment Funkadelic. Reminds me of 1978, sitting in the Student Union at Towson State University … well, actually, sitting outside the BSU (Black Students Union) on the lower level. That song was ALWAYS blaring from a jukebox they had in there. You cannot help wanting to dance to that song. And that line “Feets don’t fail me now” – classic! (Im sure some pedantic dolt will tell me that it was first heard on some other song but I don’t care. So HAH!)
It’s WTF Tuesday!
Theme: WTF is up with morning radio around these here parts?
So, every morning on my way to work, I contemplate the hellishness that is drive time radio here in the “DC metro area”. I used to be a Howard Stern fan but the last 2 years he’s been phoning it in like a big dog. It’s pitiful. Maybe it’s just that I have managed to catch a clue or what, I dunno. If I hear about his BEAUTIFUL model girlfriend Beth, what other chicks he would bang if he could (wayward rant ahead –> and can I mention that the term BANG is so obnoxious. What a guy word. Now, I’m not all about hearts and flowers and shit (waves to Twinnie) but even *I* feel that BANG is just repugnant as a term for sex.) or how Dominick Barbera is a big fat slob, I’m gonna hurl. It is official. I HATE HOWARD STERN.
So, what’s left?
* Elliott on DC101 – with that laugh that could curdle milk? No. ohhh No (I despise him with a passion usually reserved for idiots who IM me and ask my bra size first thing) (It’s 32, remember?)
* Sports Junkies on HFS – well, I don’t know squat about sports and could give half a rats ass about it as well, so generally, NO. (although they were pretty good going over the Gulf War redux info back in the spring – so, props to them. As if they care, I know!)
* Haber & Erin on 104? She’s got a cackle to rival Elliotts. Plus, she’s got some bias against fat people and constantly makes shitty asides about stuff and that just bugs me. For pity sake, pick on J-Ho or something. Always some good snark there, Erin (you hateful witch)
So, I’m left with (and say this properly, people) SMOOOOOOTH Jazz … 105.9. (Gotta draw out the smooooooooooooooooooth part correctly, dontchaknow?) They are usually okay – not much talk, Sade pretty often. I can dig it.
It’s just … just … (sigh) … I wish I had something engaging to listen to in the morning. Well, at least my index finger will be in awesome shape from punching those buttons every five seconds.
(And now, a break from the whining)
Do you remember what it was like to be 17? In case you are old and crochety, take a visit to Michele’s site. She bubbles over with the joy of being a teenage girl. It makes me joyful to read her posts – there’s so much energy and happiness there. (Waves to Michele because I actually do know her and she is a sweetie IRL – best buds with the Goddaughter ‘O Love, yanno)
That’s all for WTF Tuesday … I move outta da office ‘o the Queen tomorrow … I would like to say “Thank You” to the door on said office for affording me the quietness I needed some days. Otherwise, what little sanity I now possess would surely have gone by the wayside.
Night Night!
Billy Crystal had a great bit in his stand-up back in the ’80s about the wonderful terms men used when described sex — some of it even made it into the movie City Slickers. I cannot explain why my half the species chooses words such as “bang,” but I’m sure it’s not a coincidence that many weapons have a very phallic appearance.
On the morning radio thing, I’ve given up on finding a local station I can just leave on. I’ve gotten to the point where I just listen to CDs pretty much whenever I’m driving. However, I have found the Mix 107.3 morning show fairly innocuous — there are many worse things to listen to in the morning.
By the way, thanks for the kind words you posted on my page a couple days ago. :-) :::hugs:::
Scary! I switched from 103.5 to 105.9 about a week ago. Without Dennis Owens the classical station just isn’t the same. And yes, they were playing “Sweetest Taboo” when I drove into work yesterday.
