Lord have mercy! It was a long (but fun) weekend! I gotta stop this or I’m not going to last the year.
Friday: As mentioned, Duty ‘O Lurve’s b’day. I took a half day off work (and I am sooo glad I did too! Apparently the site went down three times and there were 17 calls in the customer support queue. Everyone in BO took calls. YOW! And I was off shopping for presents. Life can be good, sometimes!)
Justin, Goddaughter of Lurve (who did a wicked good job on the cake), Cousin ‘O Lurve and Steve ‘O Lurve came over and along with yours truly (and of course, the birthday boy himself) had an evening of pizza, cake and Flyers/Ottawa figure skating contest. (Not quite the smackdown we had envisioned, unfortunately). A good time was had by all (I think).
Saturday: Up early and at the mall with GOL for prom dress shopping. I thought we found the bargain of the century – an adorable dress on sale for (hang on!) $20!!! Unfortunately, it was just a smidge too small and despite actually purchasing it and walking over to the tailor to see what could be done, we had to sadly return it. (BOOO!) None of the other dresses we saw at any of the department stores were even close to being just right like this one was. Oh well, the search continues.
Raced home, picked up Justin and zoomed to the metro – heading for MCI and the last Caps home game of this (bloody awful) year. Of course, we got there early to get some important photos of Alexander Semin, er, uh, I mean ALL the Caps players! (tee hee). We lost in overtime to the Rags – a fitting conclusion to this season. However – (brace yourself) I WON A PRIZE! And not some pooty golf balls either!! I won a night’s stay that the Courtyard Marriott in DC!! (Well, even though I was sitting in the seat, Duty paid for the tix so does that make the prize his? I said that possession was 9/10ths of the law and even though I don’t really know what that means, it has something to do with the fact that if you have the thing, it’s yours. Thus, I had the ticket. The prize be mine. (I will take Duty, however)
(Yes, there’s more)
Anyway, cribbed from my post on the game that I put up on the Caps message board:
We were at the game yesterday and it was a fun place to be (and I won something! YEY! (and not golf balls either! )
Lots of energy, cheering, signs and good vibes.
Funniest Moment: The entire place booing GMGM when he was announced. I so do not have the iron ego to assume that position (nor the knowledge but that’s another story).
Second Funniest moment: during practice, all the guys shooting pucks at the net ganged up on Yeats and just pummeled him with shots. We were right down there watching them and it was so funny to see them just shoot at him until he fell over – big smiles on everyone’s face.
Most touching moment (don’t laugh at me – I’m a tender hearted sap!): Olie’s speech at the end, thanking the fans for standing by them during a very tough year. It hit me especially because this was my first year as a die hard fan (vs. just learning about the game and watching peripherally) and I followed all the ups and downs right here with you guys.
Second most touching moment: my nephew – Flyers fan to the core, standing and applauding Olie when they gave him his award.
___________
I must give all props to Justin for trying his damndest to grab a cap signed by Sasha for Lauren. PROPS be to you, Justin ‘O Lurve! You would have been amply rewarded for your efforts!
Anyway, last night we just sat around, watched more hockey and ate more pizza. All carbed out and sick of hockey, it was time for bed.
Today: Breakfast, chores, bringing Justin back and having dinner with his family.
Tonight: EXCELLENT Sopranos ep! Damn, that James Gandolfini. Makes me love Tony AND hate him at the same time.
Now: Off to bed and back to the real world of work tomorrow.
