I have been fortunate in my life to become acquainted with just some of the best people God put on this earth. Some of these acquaintences have become very good friends. Lauren was blessed with good friends, also. Last year around this time Lauren was preparing to go off to college. She got her roommate assignment and was eager to get in touch with her soon-to-be new college friend. Lauren and Kristen, and a few of her other suitemeates, were transferred into the Watson 220 suite from their original assignment. (My friend, Eve, insisted that I contact the dorm and have Lauren transferred to a dorm room on the first or second floor so she wouldn’t have to climb stairs all day long – this later turned out to be a good thing for me too!)
Lauren was so happy to find out that Kristen enjoyed cooking, also.
Okay, I obviously should not be going to UVA since I am too stupid to even figure out how to find my housing assignment. Yeesh. It’s supposed to be up today but I have NO IDEA where. And hopefully it’s not because I checked off the box for disability or whatever and then never got around to filling out that form … ooops. (I was only going to ask for a room on the 1st or 2nd floor so I won’t have to walk up a million flights of steps, but I didn’t realize I had to fill out a separate form until like 3 days ago. D’oh.)
So yes. Me = dunce. But I just wanna know who my roommate issssss!
6:32 PM Oh! Never mind. My smart dad just found it for me. I am in Watson, which is in the Alderman dorms, on the FOURTH floor. Darn. And my roommate’s name is Kristen. So … maybe I’ll email her tomorrow … in hopes that she’ll write first. ;) Oh, and to get your assignment, you have to go BACK to the application, log in, and then there is a link to your results … I mean, who would ever think of that??
Kristen became a great and very understanding friend. There were several times when I would be in the dorm room with Kristen and Lauren (who was let’s just say, “not feeling very well”) . While other 18 year olds would maybe excuse themselves, Kristen was there asking if she could do anything to help.
I quickly got to know the girls and when I moved down to Charlottesville temporarily in January, I became their “sweet suite mom”. Lauren and I would bring goodies to the suite on Friday afternoons – happy hour, because making it to another Friday was reason enough to celebrate.
Kristen has recently sent an email to say hello and show her support.
Hi Ms. Munchak!! That sounds like a great idea to help raise money for research. How are things going for you? Did you get my email I sent you after my bday? Someone special I know has a birthday coming up :) I hope all is well. I have been spending my summer teaching Spanish and cooking with every free moment I have :) My mom, my cousins, my aunt, my grandma, and I are all heading to Orlando next week for vacation. Im excited. We decided to drive, so that will be interesting ( my little cousins are a bit restless). Well I am very excited about your efforts to try and raise money. Tell the family I said hello. You all will always remain in my prayers and in my heart. Take care my very sweet suite mom!
Kristen -Good luck to you this year – I’ll miss UVA (and I’m not so sure Lauren’s sister, Christine, wants to have me around in Blacksburg – that other Virginia school.)
So note the coincidental (?) use of emoticons!
