10 down, 14 to go.
Mary’s post 30 minutes ago posed an interesting question about why people blog. In my travels across other blogs while doing the Thursday Thirteen, I’ve seen quite the spectrum of writers. Some who do it very stream-of-consciousness, others who plan out each entry and still others who blog more with photos than words. All of it, though, speaks to an inner creative spark – something that pulls you to express yourself in this way.
I have kept journals since I was 10 years old and blogging was a natural outgrowth of that. I still journal, of course, but much of that is about what’s roiling around inside me that I don’t want anyone else to see. Things I struggle with, cry about and process in my own way. On my blog I show the “outer” Lisa – snarky, goofy, silly and sometimes sad. I always keep in mind that this is indeed a public forum and I’d rather nothing I write about come back to bite me in the butt later.
I write (and blog) in the way I do because it is an extension of who I am. Writing has always been and will always be a part of me. Stick me on an island with a pen and some paper (preferably a laptop and wi-fi and unlimited coffee) and I’m quite content. Communicating through the written word is where I am happiest. (I also talk to myself in my head – wonder if that’s an only child thing?)
I ,too ,write Lisa, but as you know, blogging has been tough. I find the privacy piece tough but know I can learn so much from others. By blogging, I have found that I can give others a bit of a chance to look inside as well. Perhaps if I started the journal again, the public part would be less difficult. Hmmm… now there’s a though. By the by, congrats on the blog-a-thon. Sorry I haven’t been able to stay in touch. Minneapolis calls. But meetings are over now and I get to come home tomorrow! Yea! I thought it would be cooler here than home but wouldn’t ya know, it hit 100 degrees here for the first time in 11 years and the humidity feels like it is 150%. Keep on going girl!
You are doing a great job! Hope you’re having fun with your thon!
