Props and more to Denise of Mental Excrements who posed the challenge to all the 13ers to do a list of things they like about themselves. And while I like to think I am quite humble (hahah, stop laughing cousins ‘O Love, Cool and Flair!), I know my strengths.
BTW, to comment, scroll BACK up and click on the word HEARTS! Thanks!
1. I am youthful
In fact, according to GOL, I am perpetually 12. I’d like to think I’m more 28ish because at 12 you can’t drink, drive or uh, do other stuff. So, let’s go with 28 and youthful.
2. I see the sacred in most everything
From the squirrels that entertain me in my backyard to the funky bugs crawling on my plants (HEY! Get off there!) to chicks wearing belly shirts that might want to reconsider their fashion options. Yep, I surely do try to see the sacred.
3. I work really hard to change things that seem to be impeding my personal growth.
I’ve spent years in individual therapy, group therapy, coaching and now mentoring. If there’s a way for me to grow, I am willing to look at it and try, even when it’s very hard, to change things about myself that are ingrained but unhealthy. I really like that about myself. (It may not make me cool, but it sure helped me deal with a lot of life crap including crap I brought on myself.)
4. I take exquisite care to pick out just the right gift for people.
I once worked with a woman who gave gifts to various other office mates for Christmas. But they were always seemed to be random gifts that looked as if she dug them out of a closet five minutes earlier. (You all know people like that, right?) Perhaps I am persnickity about stuff but that offends me. Even if I don’t know the person I am gifting, I will go out of my goofy way and FIND out something so that I can pick a gift they will like. That said, I will admit that the outfit I got Christine from Hot Topic several years ago was insanely horrible. I don’t know what possessed me to get it and it’s possible someone in HT drugged me or something at the register. I consider it a blight on my otherwise fabulous record.
5. I dance well.
And I can lay claim that I outdanced my friend (non-hockey) Kim at a bar. We used to call her the Energizer Bunny because she danced until the cows came home. It was one night after I had lost most of my weight from surgery and I was feeling gooooood in my body. It mattered not if anyone danced with me, whether I liked the song, even. I was out there just a’shaking my booty for all it was worth. Ah, good times. I still dance well but the only ones privileged to see any bootay shaking are the cats and Max.
6. I make a reasonably decent stay-at-home wife.
Why, just today Duty admitted that he likes when I’m home to greet him. (Doesn’t that sound so “June Cleaver”? I know. I don’t wear pearls to vacuum, though.) I don’t mind preparing dinner and now that we have a nice dining room table, we actually sit down for a meal instead of eating it watching television. If only it paid better. (sigh)
7. I am quite content with my own company most days and love the sound of silence.
Once in a while I get bored and/or lonely, but most days I’m content. (I will be a hermit by the time I hit 50 – just you watch!)
8. I have cute toes when they’re all painted up pretty.
(If you saw the toes that run in my family, you’d know why I am happy about this!)
9. Like Frieda on Charlie Brown, I have naturally curly hair.
It’s been the bane of my existence, mostly. All I ever wanted was straight, straight hair. Me and the hair? We’ve made peace with each other and can mostly co-exist now.
10. I am equally happy reading fiction as I am non-fiction.
As long as I’m reading, I’m happy. (I’ve been known to read cereal boxes if there’s nothing else around.)
11. I’m not materialistic so name brands on clothes or other things really don’t sway me much.
I went into the Coach outlet center today and almost passed out. $98 for a wallet??? A WALLET?? No. Hell, I am reluctant to pay that for a dress even, much less a wallet. (Okay, I admit I was happy with my $45 bass handbag I got for $15. Now, is that a bargain or what??)
12. I know all the hip lingo.
You know, words like “groovy” and “far-out” and stuff like that! heheh You know stuff’s become mainstream when your mother pops “bling-bling” into the conversation. :) I know the insider hip lingo – internetS, and all that sort of thing. Yeah, so this is all true.
13. I will never, ever use what someone told me in a vulnerable moment against them.
No matter what transpires, I made a solemn promise to myself long ago never to do this. How can you hope to encourage others to feel safe with you if you turn around and stab them when you get hurt or angry? This never felt right to me and I’ve never done it. (Wanted to, sometimes, but never have.)
The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well! I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 13 things. Trackbacks, pings, comment links accepted!
2. I see the sacred in most everything
I love this quality in people! Way to go for acknowledging so many good things about yourself!
Number 13 is very important.
We seem to have a lot in common. I love the sound of silence too, especially when the kids finally leave the house for school in the morning. 1, 2, 3… ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
I wouldn’t pay $45 for a wallet either. I don’t care WHAT brand it is!!! Brand names have little effect on me.
Great to meet you, I loved your site and i’ll be backkk!
Love your # 2 and 7. I see (or try to anyway) the sacred in most things as well. I also enjoy my time alone.
What a great list! I especially admire #2, #6, and #13…and I am surprised at how many 13’ers have commented on their toes! I like my toes too (but forgot to add that on my list.)
Happy TT!
Okay I’m jealous I have horribly unbeautiful toes, and my children inherited those unattractive toes, especially our pinky toes. =-)
Cindi
My TT is up and running
I read cereal boxes when I am eating too. I have to read when I eat, whether it’s a magazine, computer, or book (unless I am with my family).
Great list!
What a great list! I forgot about my toes, which when I take the time to keep them all painted are pretty cute too! lol
My Thirteen is up, I took on Denise’s challenge as well.
I’m up at TT – 13 things France this Thursday
Great list! You sound like a cool person with a great sense of humor.
Visit my TT when you get a moment. :)
Thanks for the comment on my site! I can completely agree with your #4. I have a relative who is the crappiest gift-giver; we are always saving her gifts for white elephant gift exchanges – they are that bad! She gave me and my husband a lava lamp for a wedding gift. It was all I could do not to include the word “groovy” in the thank you note.
I loved your list. 13 is a wonderful quality.
That’s a nice list…I love an even balance of fiction and non-fiction too. :)
this is a great, great list.
and i love your # 4!
Your list is one of my favorites today. I even liked the easy to read layout.
I relate most to your #7. But with three little boys, I am REALLY holding my breath until next Monday, when they’re all in school all day.
I have straight, straight hair. And, I always wanted curly. I have spent a fortune having it permed.
I read everything, too!
I love to be alone!
Basically, everything you said would be me too! (Except, maybe the dancing. Only my family sees that and it makes them laugh.) LOL! We are twins ;)
L-
All of these are so true! But you forgot: really good friend who isn’t pushy but constantly loving; hostess with the most-est; fantastic wordsmith (and waaaaayyyy better speller than me/I) and CAPS FAN!!!
Love you LOADS
28 days until HOCKEY SEASON STARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m like that with gifts as well. It HAS to be the right gift. Though I wish some of my friends would think as much as I do about it. :)
Very cute list ;) love it!
Happy Thursday!
Great list. Nice to know about you.
My TT13 is up too.
I love 2 and 3 and particularly 7 – I am quite happy to be by myself in silence. Very peaceful.
First of all? Love the name snarkypants! Love it! I want to put it on a t-shirt! Linking you on my site just b/c I love your name!
Secondly, excellent list. For the items listed as well as the snark! Makes me wish my list was more fun for others to read…
Your list is great! I love #’s 4 & 7.
My TT is up.
i’m also a great gift giver but i fail at #13 sometimes. in heated moments, i sometimes bring the past up again. :( i’m terrible.
i like your list! mine’s up!
I am terrible about gifts–no one but my kids get a regular gift each year–It has to be just right, or I’d rather not get one at all…Conversely, you might get an un-birthday gift halfway through the year because I found something that just Screamed your name to me! I also care less about the Brand of something than whether or not I love it. Target? Prada knockoff? If I love it, I love it, but I am not willing to pawn my firstborn to get a handbag.
Great list! (Great traits, too)
I LOVE the fact that you spend time selecting gifts. No matter how small the gift is or for what reason…just getting a gift that “fits” you is a great feeling!
Thanks for participating in the challenge.
You have no idea how good it feels to get a gift you know the other person spent time thinking about and picking out – it’s so much better than feeling like you are getting something that just got pulled out of the back of their closet or car truck!
I wish I could be like you in the gift picking out department. I love it when that shows in a person!
Happy TT!
I love your list :-)
1, 2, 4 7, 10-13, me too! and #9 – it’s a well known fact that everyone with bone straight hair would love to have curly hair and vice versa. It’s the perfect example of “the grass is always greener”!
I don’t get enough of #7!
You’re all that and more Lisa! My daughter has Frieda curls and I don’t know where they sprouted from. (I still think Jon rolled me in the wrong baby from the Nursery)
-Margie
I appreciate someone who takes the time to pick out the right gift. I do it myself, spending an insane amount of time (and sometimes money) to get “the perfect” gift for someone. I’ve learned that it is truly an acquired skill as most just don’t put the effort into it.
When the silence gets to be too loud for me, I just start singing to the cats!
Fantabulous list!
I wish I had wavy or curly hair (#9) and people like me especially appreciate #13. Trust me, it is noticed and much appreciated.
-A
Congratulations, your list is great! I’m still making the challenge list, so this week my TT is about something else, birthdays.
Happy Thursday!
