Thursday 13 #598 Songs for all sides of me

August 1, 2007 Written by Lisa
Thirteen Songs that show bits of my personality

So, here’s my brainstorm: there are songs that speak to a whole bunch of different sides of me. Why not show (and tell) you guys what they are? (Duty laughed at this idea and then tried to pretend he was just kidding when my bitty feelings got hurt so if it’s dumb, be nice, please?)

(The first five have the videos embedded but the rest are links since it took forever for the site to load)

Here we go:
1.
Daddy’s Girl:
My dad used to call me his little “Heart of Gold” and I even have a gold heart necklace with that inscribed on it. Whenever I hear this song by Neil Young, I think of my dad. (I had a friend who sang in a band. I asked what kind of music they play and he asked if I had heard anything by Neil Young and I blurted out “Good lord. He has THE WORST voice I’ve ever heard!” to which he replied – yeah, I sound like that. (Where’s that convenient portable hole in the floor when you need it??)

2.
TeenyBopper:
Here’s a funny thing about this song – there’s a line in this “oh so innocent” song that understand NOW but back of then, not so much. The line was “there, you give your love to me …” so I envisioned this sweet little girl giving him her heart. Yeah. No. That wasn’t it. Just a bit south of that heart thing. But I still loves me some partridge family and this song is one of my favorites. (Just shut up)

3. Pure 80s girl – no matter where I am or what I’m doing, I get the urge to dance to this. The line that speaks to me is “only when I’m dancing can I feel this free …. live out your fantasies with me” Ah … youth.

4.
Introspective
– I love love love this song. “I would be the one to hold you down, kiss you so hard ….” passionate, ethereal and deep. One of the few songs that truly evokes a sense of who I feel I really am.

5.
Tenderhearted
– this song, sung like no one else can by Bonnie Raitt, gets inside me and just pulls out my heart. I have been the person saying these words (who hasn’t, I suppose) and know the feeling inside and out.

6.
Sacred / Spiritual
Silence by Delirium featuring my girl Sarah. This song feels really spiritual to me (despite the funky Buffy video – it was the only decent one I could find for the song) and speaks to the side of me that longs for more.

7.
Wanna be a mommy song
Always wanted a little girl and I would have sung this to her (and then made her sing it to me) until we both hated it AND each other! heheh

8. Best friends with Lauren song : The last full day I spent with Lauren at the hospital we watched the entire first season of the british version of The Office. We LOVED this song and gleefully sang it the rest of the day. Yeah, I know. We’re 12.

9. This is really me – from start to finish – Babylon by David Grey – “If you want it, come and get it. The love that I was giving you was never in doubt – let go your heart, let go your head and feeeeel it now’ – Look inside me and you will get this vibration. (Plus, how cute are his little head bobs??)

10. Primal – Voodoo by Godsmack – Something about this song makes me want to dance or something. I wish I could belly dance (I’ve got the belly for it! haha) – don’t know what it is about this song that feels earthy and first chakra to me.

11. Longing – Incubus – “the ocean looks like a thousand diamonds strewn across a blue blanket ” love that line and yeah, I wish you were here.

12. Floaty, floaty and ethereal – “Breathe Me” by Sia. This song just gets right inside me. I don’t ice skate at all but I can see this as a couples figure skating piece – twirling together and then apart. I don’t watch Grey’s Anatomy but liked this video best of all the ones out there … enjoy.

13. Loving daughter – “Time after Time” – mom and I used to watch MTV (okay, I made her) and this was like “our song” because the mom in the video (Cyndi’s real mom, btw) looked like my mom. At my wedding, this was the song I had played for her. “If you’re lost, you can look and you will find me, time after time …” (I miss you mom)

I too am a fan of The Partridge Family and the song “Summer Days”. I played it on my radio show awhile back and posted the link to the You Tube clip as well.

I posted 13 songs this week too and gave some backround info similiar to what you did.
I love Heart of Gold by Neil Young and I think his voice is so melodic. He made my lsit too but with a different song. I absolutely love David Grey and Babylon, I love his whole cd White Ladder. Time after Time is awesome and there are a few others I am curious to listen to based on what you wrote.
Thanks for the list and I thought it was cool that I was thinking on the same track.

Hey Lady! I totally dig Voodoo by Godsmack. Did you know the lead singer is Wiccan?

    Sarah McLachlan is a goddess.

Great choices and Duty was wrong it is a great idea!

I’ve never heard of most of those but I love the idea.

I do love Heart of Gold though – got that one on my mp3 player, and anything by Bonnie Raitt works for me.
