… I gots no Christmas spirit this year. It’s already the 10th of the month and I haven’t even given any thought to taking out the small tree or various and sundry ornaments and puhlease … Christmas cards? I can’t even find the ones I think I bought last year. Perhaps when you have kids, there’s some impetus to actually, you know, get into the whole thing. But the cats don’t overly care and Max is oblivious to it all so really, what’s the point?
Fun shall commence, however, on Saturday for cookie baking! Wheeee! Even though I can’t roll Italian cookies for crap (that be Cousin O’Love’s job), I like hanging out and pretending to make cookies. And eating them after?? MMMM! When I was little, my Grandma used to make a bizillion of them and I’d have to sneak down to the basement where she had them cooling and snitch a bunch. The first year my mom made them, she laid them all out on the table and said “Knock yourself out. Eat all you want.” Wow … I am pretty sure I am still working off those calories. I’ve moderated my Italian cookie snarfing (a bit) these days. Plus, last year they made the cookies from the original recipe (rather than the modifications that Grandma and then Mom made) and I thought they were kind of dry, actually. They rolled easier, though, I will say that. Easier to make, not as snarfalicious so it’s a win/win for me.
Tomorrow is present swapping at work along with tree decorating. If I don’t get some Christmas spirit from that, ain’t nothing gonna do the trick. Dear Santa, can I have an Ipod Touch? Please??? I’ve been oh-so-good.
I had a crafts day with some friends last week, and we made dog treats and a few vegan people treats… I highly recommend you coordinate a group of friends and have a crafts/treats day. Your pets might be completely oblivious to the coming of the solstice or the arbitrarily chosen birth-date of Jesus Christ, but they know what tastes right! We did dumb stuff like cut out words from magazines and listened to a the Godspell soundtrack on record… Maybe that would make writing cards more fun, if you made rules like every other sentence had to have a word clipped from a magazine in it.
Christmas is too im-materialistic these days to “get into” anyhow.
