Bounce yer Boobies*

Sending a shout out to Randi Rhodes … Back in the day, I couldn’t listen to Randi. She was too aggressive, too … something. I couldn’t feel that passionate about politics and her vibe was just too far away from my own. Then, somewhere along the line, I got passionate about things political and finally “got” Randi and what she was about. And not a show goes by where I don’t learn something by listening to her show.

My 12 year old self loves Stephanie Miller and she’s my companion on the drive to work (along with Chris and Jim). But when 3pm rolls around, I look forward to Randi. As I said, woe unto the person who calls her and is unprepared to take her on. I’d have to study 24/7 for a year just to feel okay about calling. hahah But she knows her shit. I’ll tell you that. She encourages her listeners to read and to PAY ATTENTION. And you know how that appeals to my little heart, right?

Every Friday, she opens the show saying “It’s Friday, ya bastids” and then goes into a song called “Bounce yer boobies” by Rusty Warren, a bawdy comedian from the ’60s. It just makes me laugh. So, even though it’s not Friday (ya bastids), I wanted to give Randi a shout out.

(Not bouncing any boobies over here, alas.)

Friday Flu-fun

November 16, 2007 Written by Lisa

Yep, I b home with some sort of bug flu-like thingy (Mrs. Tool-time, STOP apologizing!) and even though I feel rather poo-full, I am happy to have a day off.

So, yeah. Day 16 and I’m still blogging away. There’s a whole group over at NaBloPoMo for people who can’t come up with topics to write about. (Jerry Seinfeld voice) “Who ARE these people?” I could do this for months on end (and look out, I just might!) without running out of things to say. BUT! Are they things anyone wants to read? Who knows?

When Lauren and I first started blogging, we were pretty much the only ones who read each other’s words. I always said that even if no one read what I wrote, I’d still write because that’s who I am. From little up, words bring me alive. I was the dorky kid who carried home 8,000 books from the library intending to read each one (yes, all in the space of two weeks. Yeah, that happened.) Still now, I am always writing and/or reading in one way or another. And 100 years from now, I’ll be blogging in BloPoFroBe (blog posting from beyond). Tee hee

I’ve mentioned Dooce (aka Heather Armstrong) on here as one of the best writers out there on the Internets. This paragraph, from one of her recent posts, leaves me in awe of her ability to create a picture with words. She writes often about her daughter, Leta, and this one made me smile, if only for the humor she injects.

Oh, to have the mad skillz Heather has. But I don’t so you must settle for me in all my goofy, woo-woo, political ranting and Lauren missing ways.

It’s been almost two years since we discontinued occupational therapy for Leta’s gross motor skill development, and since then she has shown remarkable progress. Her gait is strong and mostly balanced, give or take a few stumbles here, a wobble there, but that has nothing to do with her development and everything to do with the vodka.

(snip)

Yesterday morning I forced her to walk down the stairs alone, and when we both got to the bottom she was so exhausted from complaining about it that she said, “I need to lie down on you, Mama.” Recounting this makes it seem a lot weirder than it actually was, but I got down on my back right there on the floor, pulled her into a snuggling position on top of me, her head tucked under my chin, and we lay there together while she regained composure. Three minutes later she stood up and said, “I’m okay.” I imagine that this will become more complicated, say, when she’s in college and is frustrated about her Calculus homework, and she’s lying there on top of me on the floor of the lobby of her dormitory.

(I’m not a mom but I absolutely GET the part about laying down right there. I bet you all do, too.)

Thursday 13 #6,349: 13 things W will do after he leaves office

(props to Samulli for the great header graphic!)

Top 12 Things George W. Bush will do after he leaves office (plus one)

(stolen from Ben Gleib but with love)

13. Challenge Lance Armstrong to a bicycle race.

12. Three years straight vacation time at Crawford. (Which will involve chopping down trees and killing animals. It’s how he relaxes.)

11. Restart Enron.

10. Finally take those English classes he’s been putting off.

9. Coaching a peewee football team. (He will not provide them with enough pads or equipment, and will have no game plan. But, down 57-0 at the half, will give a stirring speech about how well it’s going.)

8. He will pen a best selling memoir of his time in office, called “Presidency for Dummies.”

7. Will also create series of children’s books where out of a large crowd you try and find the evil terrorist, called “Where’s Osama?” (Sadly this will be his new idea for how we should actually capture him.)

6. Join OJ on his search for the real killers.

5. New S&M game where he gets turned on by water boarding Laura.

4. Even though he has no personal interest anymore, rig elections just for the hell of it.

3. Run whatever else he touches right into the ground.

2. Illegally eavesdrop on his neighbors, this time with nothing more than his ear, a glass, and his never-ending desire to ignore people’s civil liberties.

1. Choke on some more pretzels.

Kitty Cat Tuesday – Sophia

November 13, 2007 Written by Lisa

Sophia

Meet Sophia, the newest arrival to house of Snark and Love. It was not my intention to replace Midjull after he took his leave. I started with four cats and was now down to two. Two cats and a dog – quite a change from the days when we had four cats, two guinea peegs and Max (and the requisite partridge in a pear tree). Duty and I were fine with that. But then, a friend from the Light Paths community passed away, leaving her several many dogs and one kitty cat. Regina was looking for a home for her and while I didn’t want to openly volunteer, I somehow knew she’d find her way here. Especially since her name was Sophia – not coincidentally the name of the seminary I attend – Sancta Sophia.

She’s been with us a bit over two months now and in order to keep peace in the house, she stays upstairs and Lucie and Murphy remain downstairs – blissfully unaware of each other. Sophia (or “Sophie” as Duty calls her) is my upstairs companion. She sleeps with us and we play and have a good time. She’s very different in personality than the cats I raised are but she’s still young (I have no idea how old she is) and I enjoy her kitten energy. Lucie tells us (through Marilyn, a very gifted animal communicator) that Sophia doesn’t understand spirit:

She comes from a different perspective than I can fully appreciate. She is not a bad cat, but her feline manners are quite atrocious. She calls me “old bag” and says disrespectful things about my job and my position. She thinks spirit things are not important, and mostly not present.

I know Lucie didn’t take well to being called an old bag. (Tee hee – neither would I but that was pretty funny!) Perhaps I am to teach Sophia about the ways of Spirit? I don’t know but I do know that she’s here with us for a reason which may (or may not!) be revealed in time. I told Duty the other day that it seemed like she was finally becoming attached to us and he said “I can’t imagine any animal being around you and not being attached. You just send out love all the time.” Awwww ….
