De Drama Queenz

May 6, 2010 Written by Lisa

What is it about Facebook that brings out the drama queens and those who are dying for attention? I have a few peeps on my friend list who post constantly and it feels to me as if they are looking for validation or attention or … something. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, I suppose. It just rubs me a wonky way. We have a couple DQs at work, too, and it’s the same thing. One person periodically gets into the “look at meeeee” mode and it drives me crazy.

I tend to stay invisible (or at least sort-of invisible) and so view those on the other end of the spectrum as the aforementioned Drama Queens. Yes, it’s me being judgmental. Not very pretty, eh? It’s about wanting to be seen and much of my stuff is about wanting NOT to be seen. So, it pokes me with a stick some days.

Okay, off to ‘not be seen’ at work. Hard to do when you are the point person for the office. The Universe loves to laugh at me.

All you need is love

February 14, 2010 Written by Lisa

I decided to go back and review all my Valentine’s Day entries on ye olde Snarkypants to see what I’ve said in the past (because I am just that infatuated with my own writing). When I wasn’t blathering on about the Goddaughter of Love (who seemed to be the focus of many posts), I was writing about things and people I loved. I decided to continue in that tradition today.

And now I present to you:
Things and people I adore and the reasons why
(circa February 2010)

1. Thing: raw milk – mmmmm! This is my newest yumminess and it is awesomeness in a bottle. I got just a half gallon of it to make sure I liked it and once I had a glass, I was hooked. I think my body LOVES the Vitamin D in there because I totally crave it now. This last time I ordered a gallon so we’ll see how long that lasts.

2. Person: My friend Christine who has the dearest heart of almost anyone I know. She’s sweet, fun and just seeing her face and her smile always makes me feel loved. I remember meeting her about 4 years ago and just really wanting to be friends with her. I gave her my phone number and when she called, I was so so happy. She’s one of my closest buddies and always a good woo-woo guinea peeg.

3. Thing: my laptop – my constant companion, holder of all my Cookie photos, podcasts, and internets (which I love with the heat of a thousand million white hot suns) – bury me with it because I can’t go anywhere without my computer. Not even Heaven where I hear there’s unlimited internets.

4. Person: my muse – for a bunch of reasons but especially because they help stir up that creative second chakra energy even while laughing at my 12 year old Cookie crush. A world class champeeen woo-woo guinea peeg who halfway pays attention to what the guides say (heh) and who gives me all the worship one High Priestess of Woo-Woo deserves. :)

5. Thing: I’m going to put my cats in here even though they aren’t “things” per se. They are as follows: Miss Lucie, my snuggle bunny and Miss Sophia, my independent love. After spending almost six or seven months learning how to adapt to each other, they are finally on the road. In fact, the other day I witnessed a miracle: Sophia jumped up on a chair where Lucie was snoozing and instead of there being a small hissing incident, Sophia proceeded to lick Lucie’s head and Lucie let her. True, it was for about 10 seconds but hey! It’s progress. I love them both, even if Lucie can’t quite figure out why peeing in her box is preferable to the plastic surrounding it (for just that reason) and Sophie thinks that going out into the sunroom in the winter is like going outside. We let her have that fantasy. It’s cold out there anyway.

6. Person: Couldn’t let this one go by: My two sekrit boyfriends: David Cook and Hal Sparks. Love Cookie’s voice, arm porn, sweet nature, laugh and (ahem) fanbase. Love Hal’s intelligence, quick wit, ability to be totally comfortable with who he is, arm porn and his accessibility. It was immediate love with Cookie but Hal totally won me over. I feel very balanced in my love/lust for these two men.

7. Thing: my really wonderful california king size bed that I share with just Sophia. Duty snores and has weird bedtime habits (or maybe it’s me who has them) so we sleep in separate rooms. Pretty much always have because only children who get married really late in life prefer it that way. Mostly because I can read when I want, toss and turn, sleep sideways, and generally let my guard down there. You’d have to be pretty amazing for me to sleep in the same bed with you for any length of time. (Hal or David would win hands down. The rest of youse? Aww hell naw!)

8. Person: Neighbor Greg – he may be a redneck who smokes and drinks with the best of them but we have been beyond blessed to live near his family and be a part of their life. He drives me crazy by explaining EVERY FUCKING THING to me (it always starts out “Now, what ya wanna do is ….” and what I mostly wanna just do is roll my eyes and scream). Yet, my inner voice knows that if I listened once in a while, I’d learn something. Plus, he came over at 10:30pm one night to get a mouse that died in the living room while Duty was off on a work adventure. (ICK!) Can’t beat that. He’s a good man.

And now, I think I will take myself shopping for some socks with hearts on them. I love them! heh

Of snow and stealage

December 20, 2009 Written by Lisa

Holy Moley! We had us an honest to goodness snow storm here on the east coast! In our area, we got about a foot and a half of snow. I think DC and suburbs got even more than that. It was one of the few times in my adult memory where I could truly just sit back and enjoy it, knowing I had nowhere to be and nothing to do.

The face of snow joy! Here’s the (not so) bitty Luke outside playing. Look at those cheeks!

As is our tradition, Duty and I did go out and about in the truck in the middle of it because 4WD rules, y’all! We drove to Dunkin’ Donuts but that was closing early so we ended up at Acme buying frozen pizza and soda. Neighbor Greg came over and plowed our driveway a bit so we got him a 12 pack of beer in return. (He was back over here today doing it again and then he and Duty went to dig the older neighbor dude out.) They did a lot of work clearing the driveway for which I am (sorta) thankful because then I wish I could call in trapped can drive off to work tomorrow without too much trouble.

1. What is your favorite holiday show/animated show?
I don’t really watch much holiday television but if I had to choose, I’d say “How the Grinch stole Christmas”.

2. What holiday character do you think you’re most like?
Uh, Cindy Lou Who, maybe? I dunno.

3. What holiday character does your spouse think you’re most like?
Oh hell. I have no idea. I’d ask him but you’d get an even less interesting response than mine.

4. Favorite Christmas/holiday song?
It’s not officially Christmas season for me unless I hear “Please come home for Christmas” by the Eagles. (Cheery song, no?) I also really like “Christmas Time is here” by Mercy Me, and Josh Groban’s “Oh Holy Night”.
A big shout out to the Charlie Brown Christmas cd – I listen to that every day at work and it always cheers me up. (Does Snoopy dance)

5. Most hated Christmas/holiday song?
I’m with Gal on the “Grandma got run over by a reindeer” song. That’s such crap. Oh, and that damn dog barking Jingle Bells.

6. If you have an all holiday music radio station when do you start listening to it?
Probably right about now. I can’t take much Christmas music before I get sick of it.

7. If you have an all holiday music radio station do you love it or hate it?
I don’t usually listen to it. There are about three in our listening area that turn all holiday right after Thanksgiving and I refuse to listen.

8. Have you ever wrapped yourself as a Christmas present?
No because I’m pretty sure they’d ask for a gift slip to make a return for two 20 year olds or something like that.

9. Who is Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer’s father?
I’m not sure how I’m supposed to know this. Is there a Wiki for this somewhere?

10. Do you drive your neighborhood or one near you at night to look at other people’s holiday decorations?
Yes! This is also another tradition with Duty – we go out during the week after Christmas and drive all over the little town looking at (and secretly grading) the decorations and lights. It’s lots of fun! We have our Dunkin coffee and lots of christmas music blaring.

11. When you see a heavily decorated house do you think, ‘oh that’s lovely’? Or do you think, ‘oh criminy, that looks like Christmas threw up all over their lawn’?
We usually downgrade anyone who has gone overboard with the lights. It’s important to be tasteful and not trashy, IMO.

12. Are you counting the days to Christmas with excited anticipation or dread?
Mmm … more like apathy. This year the family forced me into we exchanged gift names so that we all didn’t end up buying each other stuff none of us need. I’m a giver and seeking out just the right present makes me happy so buying for just one person (and off their approved list at that!) wasn’t quite the joyous experience I was seeking. Nevertheless, Cousin O’Cool makes fabulous lasagna and we have italian bread and sausage and cannolis and it’s all fun. So … apathy mixed with anticipation of good eats and happy family.

13. When was the last time you had your photo taken with Santa? Did you sit on his lap?
Uh, the mall asked me not to return so I haven’t. I’m good like that.

14. Do you make a Christmas list for your spouse or significant other or do you rely on them to pick your gift(s) without a clue from you?
Duty is surprisingly good at picking out really nice gifts. He’d be horrified with a list.

15. When do you put up your tree?
It’s a 3 foot tabletop one with colored lights and it went up last Saturday. I’m not a big tree person. I’m not even a big decorator. That’s really the only Christmas related thing I have up. (I suck, don’t I?)

16. Real or fake?
I think you can guess the answer to that if you know me even from a distance.

17. When do you take your tree down?
Sometime after the new year. I like looking at the pretty lights.

18. Do you shop the day after Christmas sales? What do you shop for?
No and hell no. You will NEVER catch me in a store afterwards. I cannot stand crowds and that’s primo time for screaming meemies. (Although I like to get a nice calendar at 50% off so I might brave the B&N for that.)

19. Is your work/office having a holiday party this year? Will you attend?
Can I tell you what a lame ass Christmas thing we had this year? Last year, it was a HUGE festive occasion at the Boss’s ritzy house. Bless his heart – he had all the $$ approvals from management and had it all lined up when they yanked it all back because the market went to hell in October. He ended up having to pay $5000 out of his own pocket for the party. So, this year, in order not to have that happen again and stay within the very, VERY small budget they gave us, we had a happy hour at a local pub. I had to drive so I had half a beer and stayed two hours. It was depressing. But I understand why and hopefully, next year we can have something midway between crap and fabulous.

20. Do you have your New Year’s Eve Plans set yet?
We don’t usually do anything on NYE because I don’t want to get killed by drunk asshats. I’m fine with staying in, having dinner and watching a movie. Just like most any other night.

Doggie Paddling to Friday

June 25, 2009 Written by Lisa

First, thanks to Gentle Readers Jody and The Gal for their insightful comments on my last post. I’ve had baby lust forever and I can’t even go into the baby clothes section of stores without melting into a puddle of “what could have been” so it’s probably some of that stirred into my boiling cauldron of Meh-ness. And yes, the journey back into dense energy was hard – I was fine Monday and Tuesday but lost it completely yesterday and today I just tried to hang in there ’til 4:30. I’d love to call in sick but that’s not an option. Glad that next week is just 4 days.

Stolen from my source (whom I haven’t stolen from in a long time):

I can’t…
* sing on key much
* give up my addiction to David Cook (nor do I want to!)
* do any kind of math much above addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
* de-clutter
* have babies of my own

but I can…
* converse with angels
* fast for twelve days
* write kick ass stories (for special eyes only)
* afford really good bras for the ta-ta’s of love
* be disciplined about taking ALL my million supplements

I won’t…
* eat brussell sprouts
* miss an episode of the new season of “Mad Men” (Thanks for yet another addiction, Gal! heh)
* marry David Cook (much to my chagrin)
* start smoking
* ever, ever forget my amazing Goddaughter of Love, Lauren

but I will…
* carry her Light with me at all times
* get ordained sometime in the near future
* stop using Splenda completely
* de-tox my liver fully
* have my very own healing practice

I shouldn’t…
* get all spazzy when people act like morons
* love my laptop and Ipod touch as much as I do
* continue to be so damn cluttery
* eat sugar any more
* have to listen to Neighbor Greg hack and cough and sound all barfy in the morning as I am enjoying my peaceful morning coffee

and I should…
* thank the Universe every damn day for a job that allows me to do the things I want to do when I’m not there
* comment more on the blogs I visit
* do my Seminary homework (lots to do!)
* send Nikki a “Congrats on having such a cute baby” card
* write in my journal more

How’s that for a Friday meme?

Bummer news about Michael Jackson, wasn’t it? I heard someone talking about how so many people enabled him in his drug dependency that it made Anna Nicole Miller’s life look disciplined by comparison. We will probably never know what really happened to Michael somewhere along the line that caused him to implode before our eyes, but I hope he finds some peace now. As I said in the post before this, having fame and power is very difficult even if you are an internally strong person. But it’s so much worse if you’re not. I’m happy in my own little non-powerful, non-famous life. If that’s what fame does to someone, you can keep it.
