Today is the day when we are to honor those who have fought and died to keep this country free. For most, it’s just another day off (it has been for me in the past). However, this year, I cannot let it pass without saying that we are all now called to fight for our country’s freedom from those who are hell bent on taking it down. The enemy is not outside our borders, sadly. The enemy sits in the White House. He is not alone in his endeavor. There are many more who are smarter than he will ever be on his best day, trying to decimate the constitution and the laws that we have lived by for many years for their own gain.
I know, without any doubt whatsoever, that what they all do will come back to them ten-fold. And oh my, it won’t be pretty. But it will be just. We won’t necessarily see that but it will happen. That is a Universal Law. Karma, if you will. But I also feel that their presence is a call to action for all those who have been asleep these past years (definitely me) to wake up and pay attention.
That we are to stand by the president, right or wrong is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. -Theodore Roosevelt
What can you do?
1. Check out the Downing Street Memo page for more information on what it is.
2. Read this article by Juan Cole. The last paragraph states:
Why has there not been more outrage in the United States at these revelations? Many Americans may have chosen to overlook the lies and deceptions the Bush administration used to justify the war because they still believe the Iraq war might have made them at least somewhat safer. When they realize that this hope, too, is unfounded, and that in fact the war has greatly increased the threat of another terrorist attack on U.S. soil, their wrath may be visited on the president and the political party that has brought America the biggest foreign-policy disaster since Vietnam.
3. And check out this newspaper article out just today:
..It is our duty to ensure that [soldiers] never are called to make that sacrifice unless it is truly necessary.. In the case of Iraq, the American public has failed them; we did not prevent the Bush administration from spending their blood in an unnecessary war based on contrived concerns about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction.
President Bush and those around him lied, and the rest of us let them. Harsh? Yes. True? Also yes. Perhaps it happened because Americans, understandably, don’t expect untruths from those in power. But that works better as an explanation than as an excuse.
The “smoking gun,” as some call it, surfaced on May 1 in the London Times It is a highly classified document containing the minutes of a July 23, 2002, meeting at 10 Downing Street…
4. Then go here and sign the petition so that we can get more information out to the public on what really happened in the days/weeks/months/years leading up to the Iraq war.
Honor those who have fought for our rights in the past, those that are fighting for it now here in this country and those that are fighting an unjust war over in Iraq. Send them prayers, love, healing energy, whatever works for you. But please, honor them most of all by taking action in letting your elected officials know how you feel.
Hey Baby!
Thanks for the link to the Downing Street Memo … I have signed the petition and spread the word. God, how I hate the president and everyone who covers his ass. Does that make me an anarchist? It does? YAY!
I am jealous of your new house and new path!!!
Love you!
