Man oh man. Hurricane Katrina hit that place hard. I just heard on Elliot that they won’t have running water and power for *at least* 6 weeks. If you are so inclined to donate, I understand that the Red Cross is probably the best place to do that. Please help, if you can. A good number of Louisiana’s National Guard force is deployed in Iraq and they are in need of help in about 100 different ways.
Someone over at KOS (where else?) asked what we would like pResident bush to do when faced with a tragedy of this proportion (besides read “My Pet Goat” of course).
Magenta said this (and I wholeheartedly concur):
He could act like he gave a shit.
There is a ceremonial role to the presidency. Did Lincoln “do” anything at Gettysburg? Did FDR solve a single problem when he told America that “We have nothing to fear but fear itself?” Hell, Bush himself was sainted by the media for yelling into a bullhorn in September 2001.
It is inappropriate for the president of the nation to be playing golf, pimping his agenda and planning his next career as a country singer while his people are drowning.
I’d put a picture up of dumbass strumming on the gee-tar but I find looking at him causes a rise in my blood pressure and I just don’t feel like doing that this morning. The end of this regime cannot come too soon.
Speaking of which, I saw the price of gas rise 15 cents JUST yesterday. 15 cents in one day. Can you say “gouging”, my friends? Yes, I thought so. And it’s not gonna get better. We’ve been spoiled with cheap gas for a long time and from what I understand they pay over $5 a gallon in Europe so we better brace ourselves for that.
I feel wicked grumpy today. Should I just go back to bed?
