1:30 Hello again! (Remember the BoNoAF?)

July 29, 2007 Written by Lisa

Ah, we meet again..

How is everyone doing this morning?  Well?  Good.  Great, actually.

After looking at those videos of cool cars, I began to search for other videos of cool science in action.  Three of the cool videos I have to show you guys tonight were introduced to me by my father, the biggest nerd of all time.

The first video is a neat trick that involves a microwave— it’s something that should not be tried at home.

The second video is a pretty cool physics trick that involves a microwave and water that has been left alone for long enough that all the impurities escape.  Once a glass is full of pure h2o,  and no more air bubbles and the like,  it can be microwaved and heated well above the boiling point.  Once the water is heated to that point,  the moment an impurity is added, the water will boil violently.   First watch a cup of superheated water.   Then see a cool application of superheated water.   [I wish I had details about how superheated water can be utilized to make a rocket..  I’m brushing up on my German, so maybe I can ask those guys someday]

Finally..  I have two fun videos that I found..   The first involves small little explosions that you CAN play with at home  [Yay!] And the second is a car commercial that I remember seeing a long time ago.  [Interesting little fact I read:  Apparently the makers of the Honda commercial were planning on giving up if this last take didn’t work out.  Good thing it did!  It only took 600+ attempts.]
I hope you enjoyed those videos as thoroughly as I did.   I now realize the irony of my two posts… The first about how I want to save the environment, and the second consisting of blowing things up!    More of both types of posts are likely to come later on.

12:00 Midnight – The AWESOME-Files.

July 28, 2007 Written by Lisa

The X-Files is my favorite TV show, hands down.

Enjoy my favorite quote or don’t. To set it up, there have been mysterious murders, supposedly related to the “Fiji Mermaid” (this guy). Mulder and Scully go to the sideshow where the mermaid supposedly came from. When they go to the place they’ll be staying, the manager, Mr. Nutt, is short with Mulder. (And if you’ve seen that episode, that was a pun.) Anyway, here.
Mulder: Does Agent Scully know that you’re under her crawlspace?

Mr. Nutt: I was merely repairing the plumbing on this unit. I know what you’re thinking, my friend, but you are grossly mistaken. Just because I am not of so-called “average” height does not mean I must receive my thrills vicariously. Not all women are attracted to overly tall, lanky men such as yourself. You’d be surprised how many women find my size intriguingly alluring.

Mulder: And you’d be surprised how many men do as well.

Also, find a way to watch it, because it’s good.

10:30 A Note from the BoNoAF

July 28, 2007 Written by Lisa

Hello. I am the BoNoAF. I am actually the Boyfriend of Niece of Artsy Fartsy, which is a fairly prestigious and rewarding position in my opinion.
I have decided to write about something that I am quite excited by and feel very strongly about. I happen, for some unknown reason, to have a serious dedication to do as much as I can to preserve and improve the condition of the earth. Since I’m not much of a politician, my approach to changing the world involves innovative technology that helps preserve our environment. I’d like to introduce to you two of my favorite cars.

The first, The X1 Wrightspeed , holds the title of the second fastest acceleration for any street legal car. It was initially designed by Aston Martin, the makers of James Bond’s cars.

The second, The Tesla Roadster: made by Lotus, is a bit more practical and aesthetically pleasing. It holds far fewer records for speed and performance, but delivers a good deal of power with its electric engine.  [Some Mile/Dollar conversions have been made that say the Tesla gets 135 MPG on the highway AND in the city!]
I get very excited at the prospect of electric transportation, along with a push for renewable electric energy, from wind power, the sun, and the ocean tides and waves. I may make a few more of my posts may be geared towards suggestions I’ve come across that everyone can follow to help make a difference. As for now, I just wanted to spread the word about these neat engineering accomplishments!

Wayyy tooo tired

July 26, 2005 Written by Lisa

I have to agree (as usual) with GOL who points out in this here post, oh good Lord am I exhausted! Remind me NOT to entertain when med level is low. Then go to work and take a bizillion phone calls, sell AI tix and nurse a fuzzed out head. Then drive home among idiots. So not the thing for me to do.

Today I have to go get my military ID renewed or else I cannot go to the docs and get the aforementioned med levels restored since I am now on Duty’s insurance through Tricare and need the current mil ID. Mine expired in November so now we have to scurry around like rats since Duty leaves for Tampa Sunday for 2 weeks.

(Wants her peas&quiet back)

Made a new friend yesterday named Dawn. Apparently, the universe decided that someone desperately needed my AI tix for 50% off (oh, just don’t even ask, okay?) so Dawn burst upon the scene and saved the day. More on this another time unless I forget. But Dawn seems pretty cool and I think we might be friends!

More later when I ain’t so tired. Oh! They are going to start on our kitchen rehab tomorrow (I think). Wheeee! (or not)

Not their best laid plan, is it?*

*One person will get this. (on edit: okay, two people! Waves to twinnie)

So, clearly the mouse population did NOT get the memo from the frog police. Guess what Duty found floating in da pool the other day? Uh huh and ewww. I am just getting used to the froggies floating around. And now, mice? Just eww.

v. busy day yesterday – went to the Cambridge Social Security office to officially change my name to Duty’s last name which is only, what? 100000 letters longer than mine? The fates have conspired against me and I had to sort of do it if I wanted a MD license. Damn you, MD!! (shakes fist in a Jon Stewart kind of way) Anyway, it took me all of ten minutes to get that done (amazing!) Then, over to the Easton DMV to get new tags for the cars and my new license. The picture? Oh man. Not my best. Feh. Took me about an hour there, all told. That’s not bad. Went to the local Dunkins, had lunch and a coffee and then visited an Assisted Living home for my mom. Very nice – I think she’d like it. Cripes, there’s even a picture of the pResident on the piano – tell me Mama Rose won’t be happy there, yo. There’s only one hitch. No space. Gotta wait for someone to kick off. I’ve got some work to do on that whole issue. (feels a tad overwhelmed with it all but have no choice).

Day 3 of Pool-B-Warm! :) I floated around in it this evening and was visited by EmmaWeesa (that’s her new name, so she tells me). She didn’t get in but amused me poolside. She has the most bizarre accent. NG is sorta hilbilly-ish and Mrs. NG is a regular speaking chick. So where this accent comes from, I do not know. But it makes me laugh. I had a relatively accomplished day today – made a list and checked stuff off. I like doing that. I even add goofy stuff to the list (like: make pot of coffee and drink it all before 10) just so I can check SOMEthing off as done. And my new fetish “moment of zen” involves sweeping the pool with the netty thing to get out leaves and bugs. I hates me some bugs in the pool.

Yes, this is what my life consists of: making lists of mundane chores (get up (DONE!), pee (DONE!), let dog out (DONE!)), obsessively cleaning bugs and leaves from the pool, making sure Max doesn’t get out of the yard and get hissef kilt, buying more things I don’t need at the K-Mart(s) (but at a bargain!) and still having snowballs (frozen kind). You know you wish you were me – admit it.
