End O’Year Stealage

December 27, 2009 Written by Lisa

Sunday Stealing: The Final Week of 2009 Meme

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
I fasted for twelve days in January and it was amazingly easy. Which just goes to show that when I set my mind to achieving something, I can do it. It’s the mind-setting that is the hard part for me. I tried it again in February and really half-assed it and blew it seven days in.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I’m not sure I made any other than the fasting and I did keep that one. I always make one or two of them so I’ll come up with something, I’m sure.

3. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve?
Goofing around online, most likely. I don’t have any plans because I like to stay alive and drunken asshats make that hard.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My oldest aunt passed away in June. My other two aunts and I flew to Indiana for her funeral and it was a lovely remembrance of her life.

5. What countries did you visit?
Is Colorado a country? (hah Is it?) Didn’t go out of the US this year but did go to Oklahoma, Indiana and Colorado.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Discipline, David Cook singing to me and only me (preferably naked (him, not me)), some Christmas spirit, 40 hours a week and the paycheck that goes along with it and a thriving woo-woo practice.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 3, 2009 – my first DC concert where I was smooshed up against the stage, so close that had I brought out my inner perve, I could have had a field day touching him. I sang so hard and so loud that I had no voice for three days after but damn, it was worth it. One of the best days of my life.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
As mentioned, my 12 day fast. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that good in my body. Strong, clear … just awesome. I also walked a 5k in May with a bunch of other DC fans. That was something I hadn’t planned on but was glad I did.

9. What was your biggest failure?
When I fell off my wagon (fasting) and realized it was more fun to just binge eat, I totally went for it and gained back all the weight I lost plus. I finish the year feeling like Pudge McGee and am really, heartbreakingly unhappy about it all.

That, and I didn’t bring out my inner perve and cop a feel off DC. (It was the closest I’d get to him all year and if I had known that, I might have.)

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Fortunately, despite my snarfing, I have a very healthy immune system. My body is in good shape besides there being too much of it.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
New bras that showed off my awesome ta-ta’s to their best advantage. It was great.

12. Where did most of your money go?
For a while there, on new bras! hah (Damn, good ones are expensive!) Then it went to paying bills.

13. What song will always remind you of 2009?
It’s not one you’d know – it’s “Make Me” by MWK (a band Dave played with a bit before Idol.) MWK co-founders Neal & Andy are in his band now and they bust this song out every once in a while. I think it’s the most played song on my Itunes list. Love the line “Make me fall for you // as if I had nothing else to do” – (I secretly think Neal is a poser but he does write some kick ass lyrics.)

14. What do you wish you’d done more of?
I’m so sorry but I cannot divulge this as it’s classified information. Your life would be in danger and I would hate to put you in that position. Definitely shared on a need-to-know basis and only one person would need to know that and that person is well aware of it. (At least I think they are!)

15. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Cryptic answers like the one above. Well, YOU wish I’d done less of it, right? LOL

For reals, I wish I had not run amok with food.

16. What was your favourite TV program?
This year I was totally into “Mad Men” and “Dexter” along with staples like “Intervention”. Cousin O’Cool has recommended “True Blood” and I’m starting that series as soon as Netflix gets its ass in gear. She said Season 2 was pretty close to porn and I’m all about the porn (vampire or not).

17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I really don’t hate anyone. There are a few I prefer not to spend time with but I don’t hate anyone. (Dick Cheney, if I had to name names but I’ve “hated” him all along so that’s nothing new. Man is pure evil, in my opinion.)

18. What was the best book you read?
I did tear through the “Twilight” saga this year and while I can’t say they were well written, they were decent enough to pull me though four books the size of bricks. I enjoyed the ride. Just don’t name your damn baby Renesmee.

19. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Awww, you know the answer to that one! I also took a liking to Matt Nathanson after seeing him open for Cookie. He was awesome in concert. Funny and sexy and just cool.

20. What was your favorite film of this year?
I don’t see many movies in the theatre so it’s hard to say. I enjoyed “Julie and Julia” and am looking forward to seeing “Up in the air” (despite my strong aversion to anything with smarmy George Clooney in it) and “Blindsided”. Oh wait, I watched “The Proposal” and really, really enjoyed it.

21. What did you do on your birthday?
Some fam and I went to Buca diBeppo’s in Washington right before my birthday and that was a nice celebration.

22. What kept you sane?
Visits to Cooklandia, the internets, and most especially, Cousin O’Cool who, despite being 18 years younger than me, is like the big sister I never had. She’s awesome – funny, smart, really snarky and very grounded. I love her lots.

23. Who did you miss?
Always miss my Lauren. Not one day … seriously, not. one. day. goes by when I don’t think of her. I also missed my mom and grandma.

24. Who was the best new person you met?
My friend Areti whom I met at the Pathways Expo in October. I hope we get to be good buddies in 2010.

25. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
To really, truly effect change, I have to shift stuff in the physical world – it’s not enough to just think about it or ponder it. I have to actually take steps to move into it.

Oh, and touch David Cook while you can because you might not get another chance. heh

Don’t get used to me writing paragraphs, all three of you. I haven’t strayed far from my list love, you know. And now I present to you:

A list of stupid shit on my blog

1. Mad Men is starting out slowly this season but as someone on Television Without Pity pointed out, the show is really a “second half of the season” kind of thing. The first half is just laying the groundwork. Well, okay. Still feels draggy to me. I need to see Don Draper getting his groove on and soon.

2. Fall is here! YEY! I got to turn the a/c off in the bedroom and sleep with the window open. Sophia loves it (me too). I’m glad I got into the pool that one time because with it being cool out, there’s no way that temp is getting above 80. (Happily puts bathing suit away in drawer for next year.)

3. Hal Sparks twittered me back! I am such a dork! I love him. He’s filling in for Stephanie Miller and he’s much more relaxed doing it this time around than he was back in May. I may have to shove someone off my “Famous guys I’d do in a heartbeat” list. So far the list is: Cookie (Duh), Eddie Izzard,, Jon Stewart, Jon Hamm (The aforementioned Don Draper in Mad Men) and just added – Hal Sparks. A girl can dream of arm porn and funny guys, can’t she?

4. I am halfway through book three of the Twilight series (Eclipse) and it is dragging along. Cousin O’Cool (and Twilight aficionado) says I cannot skip any parts. Fuckety. This is gonna take me forever. Two other chicks in my office are behind me in reading it now and we all plan a movie event when New Moon comes out in November. The big question is whether to drink BEFORE or AFTER the movie? I think before but having seen the Jake character and how awesome he looks, I might be prone to making some inappropriate comments. After will most likely be the smart choice. heh

5. LucieCat has been officially diagnosed with feline diabetes. She is NOT going to like having to go back and forth to the vets office as much as this will probably require. And I am not going to like the hit my pocketbook is going to be taking with $100 for insulin every 6 months and assorted vet visits. And gosh, I can’t wait to start jabbing needles in her every damn day. Perhaps all my “Intervention” watching will come in handy although I admit to skipping all the heroin addicts because they show way too much needle action and that’s gross. (Yes, I know the needle is part of the allure for them but not so with me. I say Ewww!)

Now you’re all caught up! :) Don’t you feel better?

The enigmatic Don Draper

Gorgeous

Gorgeous

Read a good article about the mystique of Mad Men’s Don Draper. Here’s my favorite quote:

“He is so sexy,” said another. “I love him,” said a third. “He looks like he would know how to throw me to the wall and do me right.”

Yeah. What she said. If I go any further, I’d veer into TMI category and that’s something I generally don’t share with the world at large (and the very few family members who frequent this here blog-o-rama). So, pretty much, yeah. (sigh)

I know the Gal is right there with me on the sigh-age. In fact, it is all her fault I am even on this bandwagon! And I blame Cousin O’Cool for the Twilight fascination that’s caused me to read a bizillion pages about true lurve with a frickin’ vampire.

Did I mention I watched the movie Saturday night? Suckfest (HA! pun NOT intended) it was but it fleshed out the character of Edward much more than the book. I’d like a boyfriend that’s hot for me AND can tote me around all over the place at very high speeds.

(Should I get my hormone levels checked? This post is all about the hawtness. I just need to add some cookies into the Mad Vampire stew and there’s an interesting broth indeed. (Gross, but interesting.))

Off to take a cold shower or something.

Whaaa!

August 17, 2009 Written by Lisa

I want my own laptop back! The power cord took a dive on Friday and even neighbor Greg couldn’t resuscitate it. I ordered a new one and it’s on the way but I’m stuck sharing with Duty until then. I miss my stuff. Tons of new Cookie pics and I can’t download them. The HORROR!

Anyway, I did get a lot accomplished this weekend since I didn’t spend copious time surfing (as usual) so that was good. I had my own personal crab feast Saturday evening while watching an episode of Intervention. Just me, crabs, beer and tivo. Life is good!

Best part: I got to see my little goddaughter Sophia this weekend (who still looks like Rushbo too much for my liking. But I loves her to pieces anyway! Universe, quit laughing at me. (shakes fist at the sky!))

Sophie 1

Yummy watermelon! Or not … she didn’t seem too enthused, did she? I think she was half asleep.

The weekend ended with a new ep of Mad Men with limited commercial interruption and Don Draper bringing the sexah! Not too bad at all.

Doggie Paddling to Friday

June 25, 2009 Written by Lisa

First, thanks to Gentle Readers Jody and The Gal for their insightful comments on my last post. I’ve had baby lust forever and I can’t even go into the baby clothes section of stores without melting into a puddle of “what could have been” so it’s probably some of that stirred into my boiling cauldron of Meh-ness. And yes, the journey back into dense energy was hard – I was fine Monday and Tuesday but lost it completely yesterday and today I just tried to hang in there ’til 4:30. I’d love to call in sick but that’s not an option. Glad that next week is just 4 days.

Stolen from my source (whom I haven’t stolen from in a long time):

I can’t…
* sing on key much
* give up my addiction to David Cook (nor do I want to!)
* do any kind of math much above addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
* de-clutter
* have babies of my own

but I can…
* converse with angels
* fast for twelve days
* write kick ass stories (for special eyes only)
* afford really good bras for the ta-ta’s of love
* be disciplined about taking ALL my million supplements

I won’t…
* eat brussell sprouts
* miss an episode of the new season of “Mad Men” (Thanks for yet another addiction, Gal! heh)
* marry David Cook (much to my chagrin)
* start smoking
* ever, ever forget my amazing Goddaughter of Love, Lauren

but I will…
* carry her Light with me at all times
* get ordained sometime in the near future
* stop using Splenda completely
* de-tox my liver fully
* have my very own healing practice

I shouldn’t…
* get all spazzy when people act like morons
* love my laptop and Ipod touch as much as I do
* continue to be so damn cluttery
* eat sugar any more
* have to listen to Neighbor Greg hack and cough and sound all barfy in the morning as I am enjoying my peaceful morning coffee

and I should…
* thank the Universe every damn day for a job that allows me to do the things I want to do when I’m not there
* comment more on the blogs I visit
* do my Seminary homework (lots to do!)
* send Nikki a “Congrats on having such a cute baby” card
* write in my journal more

How’s that for a Friday meme?

Bummer news about Michael Jackson, wasn’t it? I heard someone talking about how so many people enabled him in his drug dependency that it made Anna Nicole Miller’s life look disciplined by comparison. We will probably never know what really happened to Michael somewhere along the line that caused him to implode before our eyes, but I hope he finds some peace now. As I said in the post before this, having fame and power is very difficult even if you are an internally strong person. But it’s so much worse if you’re not. I’m happy in my own little non-powerful, non-famous life. If that’s what fame does to someone, you can keep it.
