Saturday 9 – Goodbye to you!

June 12, 2010 Written by Lisa

Saturday 9: Goodbye to You

1. Have you had to say goodbye to a good friend or lover because they were moving?
Yes, of course. I remember when I was 20, my best friend was going to England for a semester and I was heartbroken to see her leave. HEARTBROKEN, I tell you. I don’t do goodbyes well.

2. Have you ever wanted to use personal information about someone to sort of “blackmail” them? If yes, tell us about it.
Have I wanted to? Yes. Have I ever done it? No. That’s just asking for a tonload of bad shit to happen to you. Just say NO to the blackmails, kids. Bad ju-ju ahead.

3. What two things influenced the choice of your present job or to stay at home?
1. Location – it was closer to home by 30 minutes
2. Getting away from the living maniac I was working for. He was making my life hell on earth. God, how I don’t miss him or all that BS.

4. Do you like warm weather? How warm does it get where you live? What is the best way to spend a hot, summer day?
Nope, hate it. I don’t like being sweaty or feeling flustered and that’s what hot weather does to me. Best way to spend a hot summer day? Inside in the coolness of the air conditioning, surfing, reading and goofing off. (DUH!)

5. What do you find “hot” in a man/woman? What is the first thing you notice about someone who is hot? Do you ever think of yourself as hot? Well, looking at my sekrit boyfriends, I’d have to say that with Cookie, it’s his heart and his voice. With Hal, it’s the “nnfff” factor (Gal will get this one) and his intelligence. So, a keen mind (that moves somewhat closer to my own – not like a math geek), a warm heart and a sense of humor. First thing I notice? It’s weird but judging from what happens at work when clients come in, I can pick up their energetic signature and get a feeling from that. So, I’d say I’d notice their “vibe”. Do I think of myself as hot? My mind? Yes. (or at least it was. Not sure now) Body? So not. (sobs)

6. Are you quick to anger? How do you react when you are angry or frustrated? What do you do to cool down?
I’m quick to pissheaded-ness but not actual anger. Although I was FURIOUS – livid and furious – about someone doing what I perceived as a dickish thing to Duty. I can be a STRONG advocate for someone. (For myself, well, I’m getting there.) Mostly, though, I am learning how to feel my anger and not stuff it down with cheesecake.

7. In your family, who is the least like the rest of you?
That would be Cousin/who/hates/me. She’s very Germanic in a family of hardcore Italians. And that’s all I’ll say about that.

8. What are a few great books that you’ve taken along to the beach or on vacation in years past? If you aren’t a big reader, what do you do to while away the lazy hours? I used to love taking big ass Stephen King novels to the beach and read for hours and hours. Now, it’s more likely a non-fiction book that I take.

9. Do you like going outside during a thunderstorm and watching the lightening?
Going outside and risk getting struck by lightening? Oh hell no, girl! I will, however, sit in the sunroom with all the big windows and watch it (hoping the internets don’t go down!)

Saturday 9 Upside Down

Saturday 9: Upside Down

1. When was the last time that you felt your world got turned upside down?
My own personal world? 2006 when Mom and Lauren died within 6 months of each other. I was blessed with the knowledge that both events were on the horizon so I could be present and loving to them. But yeah, 2007 was just a blur and I made some serious errors in judgement from trying to bring my world back into balance and fill those spaces in my heart.

As a country? When Obama won the election in 2008. I wasn’t there that night in Chicago like Gal was but I was thrilled to total pieces and stayed up watching all of it.

2. Should the United States do more to help its own citizens before helping people in other countries?
I liked how Gal said it: Let me rephrase that to “as we help people in other countries.” I do believe there’s enough help to go around but I’d like to see as much compassion for our own citizens as we show others.

3. What was something you memorized for school and still can recall?
Ontogeny recapitulates pylogeny. Yeah, I wasn’t sure what that meant then or what it means now. So, I used the internets and voila!

4. With what types of people do you tend to associate?
Few right-wingers, that’s for damn sure! I love to be around smart, snarky, funny, people who “get” me.

5. Besides blogging what is the last creative thing that you’ve done?
Hmm, writing is really one of the only places my creativity shows. I will say, however, that planting my flower garden was an exercise in doing that and seeing the flowers come alive makes me happy!

6. In nature, what outdoor activities do you enjoy the most?
Floating in the pool under the warm sun and listening to the birds. Oh, and putting out food for my birdies and squirrels.

7. When was the last time that you had a great belly laugh?
There have been a couple episodes of 30 Rock that had me cracking up. That’s my new addiction on Netflix now.

8. What kind of fashion-sense attracts you?
One that doesn’t look too prissy. Just nice and neat. There’s a woman at work who personifies that and it always looks nice. Simple lines, non-fussy jewelry.

9. What traits in others turn you off?
How long do you have? Goodness, let’s see: I see a LOT of self-absorption on Facebook – like they want comments on their stuff but cannot be bothered saying stuff to others. Rudeness ALWAYS sets me off. And arrogance, too. I could go on for days about this kind of thing because I am, underneath it all, a pisshead of sorts. (But a nice one!)

Ch-ch-ch-changes

May 1, 2010 Written by Lisa

Saturday 9: Changes

1. Tell us about one thing that you’d change about yourself if you could.
I would be much less cluttery. As I mentioned, I fear that I might one day descend into Hoarder category (and if so, a divorce would be imminent. Duty freaks now as it is.) When I start to declutter, I get spazzy and overwhelmed and just stop. I should try that timer thingy Flylady suggested – doing it in doses of 10-15 minutes. Just declutter away until the timer rings and then stop. That way, you don’t have a lot of time to get overwhelmed. Anyone wanna try with me?

2. Mattel decides to make a Barbie-like (or Ken-like) doll of you — what would be the most important accessory or accessories they would absolutely have to package you with in order to portray your lifestyle?
I had to laugh at this one. Look at the header on the blog for the answer: cats, coffee, laptop and books. That’s it. I’m a happy girl.

3. Hey, do you like surprises? If yes, what kinds?
I like the kinds that have gifts attached to them and not-so-much the bad news ones.

4. What was the last snail mail that you received that was significant?
My aunt Janet writes me letters from time to time (and I write her back) and since she doesn’t have a computer, she sends me snail mail. I love it.

5. If you could pick out a brand new nickname for yourself, what would you choose and why?
I have lots of them now so not sure I’d want a new one. Snooks might be cute. Or else Wild Woman. (note that I am not at all the latter but will be in my next life)

6. John Edward’s mistress was on Oprah this past Thursday. She stated that no third person can break up a marriage, so it had to be broken before the two started doing the nasty. Do you buy that?
I think it’s a mix of lots of things. I feel that cracks in any relationship open the doors for all kinds of things to come in. If a crack is not there, no outside force can create one. Three of my cousins have really strong marriages (28 years, 27 years and Cousin o’Cool has been with her now husband for 14 years) and I honestly don’t think someone could break into them. (I could be wrong but this is my perception.) But if there is dissatisfaction or needs that are not being met, that creates that space for other energy.

As a young woman, I spent much time trying to coerce men out of their relationships with others. I am not proud of that fact at all. It was some weird, funky dynamic where I wanted to “win” someone. I didn’t much think of the other party involved, alas. Having entirely too fluid boundaries was a part of that. Wanting desperately for someone to love me was a bigger part of that. I understand better now the heartache doing something like that causes. With age comes wisdom.

7. Do you think it is okay to keep secrets from your s/o?
I wonder what it would be like to be completely and totally open to someone. I don’t think I have ever, ever done that. Not sure why. With regard to the question, like many things, it’s a matter of what is comfortable and what works for the relationship. Keeping big secrets? Probably not the best thing to create intimacy.

8. Have you ever played Truth or Dare? If yes, what’s the weirdest dare that you did?
I think I have but don’t really recall.

9. What, in hindsight, the stupidest thing that you have ever done?
I totally could not quantify that because I have done A LOT of stupid-ass things in my day. And I will continue to do them, I’m sure. The one that pops to mind was talking smack about a girl in high school and why I was NOT going to invite her to my party and then turning around to find her right there – she had been behind me the whole time I was ranting. I felt horrible and to this day, I feel very bad about saying it.

Saturday 9: Close talker edition

February 20, 2010 Written by Lisa

Saturday 9: Don’t Stand So Close to Me

1. Who would you like not to stand so close to you?
I’m pretty sure I don’t want to be in the vicinity of “Dick” Cheney. He has really, really (and I mean REALLY) bad energy and I just couldn’t stand being in that for very long.

2. Which of the following aspects of your life would you think rates the highest: mind, body or spirit?
Of those three, I’d have to say Spirit but intertwined very closely with mind and finishing a sad, sad third is body. I’m working hard, though, on bringing it more into balance.

3. What is your favorite movie line?
It’s from “Bridget Jones’s Diary” – Bridget says to Mark Darcy “Nice guys don’t kiss like that.” and he responds “Oh yes they fucking do.” – he’s so proper and dignified that hearing him say “fucking” like that makes me giggle. That movie is my all time favorite. No highbrow fancy pants foreign films for me. Just give me Bridget, that wanker Daniel Cleaver and my love Mark Darcy and I’m happy for a couple hours.

4. What is your favorite movie title?
It’s not my favorite but this bit of conversation between me and my Godmommy from my childhood always stuck in my head.

ME: There’s a movie called “The night of the following day” – why don’t they just call it “Tomorrow Night”?

GODMOM: Would you want to see a movie called “Tomorrow Night”?

So, that’s my favorite movie title: Tomorrow Night. heh

5. What is something that has happened to you that you would consider a miracle?
Hmm, that’s a good question. I could go all woo-woo on you but I won’t. I’ll stick with the mundane. After years and years of both feeling like a fat girl and being a fat girl, fitting into size 10 jeans was truly a miracle to me. In fact, it would feel like one now if I did that again. I have a magnet on my fridge that says “Miracles happen. Save the skinny jeans.” (They’re buried deep in a drawer but I still have them.)

6. What do you try to stay away from?
Places (even online) with very low vibration – fighting, mean-spirited comments, cruelty. In fact, I cannot even look at any stories of hurt and/or mistreated animals. It almost kills me.

7. What is it too late for?
Baby having. (Well, it was too late for that about 7 years ago when I found out that part of my body just decided to give up the ghost.) I felt really sad for quite a while, a good part of that sadness was that I felt I let my mom down. She said that was not the case but I still carried that around for a couple years.

8. Give someone credit for something and name it if you can.
I’m gonna call out the Sister-in-law of Love here … when Duty and I were engaged, she was not very happy about it for a couple reasons. In fact, she and her husband didn’t come to the ceremony. (They did, however, make us a wonderfully yummy wedding cake. MMM!) Whatever the issues were, she has put them aside and has become a wonderful friend and for that I am thankful. So, a big ass shout out to my sister-in-law of Love, Becky. I loves ya!

9. Would you rather be famous now & forgotten after you die or forgotten now & famous after you die, forever? And why?
Oh hell! I want to be famous NOW!! NOW I say! When I’m dead, you can move on but while I am here on this earth plane, I want to be adored and worshipped. (Oh no. Did I say worshipped out loud? Hee! busted!)
