Saturday 9: Lie to Me

1. Can you tell when someone is lying to you?
Depends. Mostly I count on my intuition to alert me. If I get a wonky vibe, I trust it.

2. Tell us about one of your flaws. Do you live with it or try to correct it?
I tend to take things personally when often they have nothing to do with me. If someone’s acting distant or grumpy, I will try to figure out what I’ve done that’s caused it and 98% of the time, it has absolutely nothing to do with me at all. Yes, I do try to remind myself of that fact but it’s been with me a long time and won’t go away just. like. that.

3. When was the last time you laughed hard and what struck you as funny?
Hmmm. That’s a good question. I’m more of a sardonic smirk kind of chick but when something cracks me up, it comes out loud and clear. Just can’t think of what that was, though. Eddie Izzard is my go-to guy for a “so funny you’re crying” kind of thing.

4. Tell us about a time when you should have tried harder.
Oh, pretty much on everything I could have tried harder. Diet, exercise, Seminary school work, stuff at my job, etc. ad infinitum. I’d say my whole life can be summed up by the words “half-ass”. (That’s a hard admission, my friends.)

5. If you won the lottery, what would you buy first?
I’d pay off my credit card, cars and mortgage first. Then I’d take care of my Godmother and Aunt Janet so they would never have to worry about money again. Then I’d go on a retreat somewhere in Sedona, AZ. And that’s just for starters!

6. What movie do you know every word to?
That would be “Bridget Jones’s Diary” – I love love love that movie. I also happen to know and can recite from memory all the dialog from “Risky Business” as well because I saw that about a hundred times back in the day.

7. What was the best thing that happened to you this week?
Front row tix to see my sekrit boyfriend in Charlottesville, blue balloons from the angels and the new friend I met at the Expo last Sunday. That’s a pretty good week, eh?

8. What was the worst thing that happened to you this week?
You ever have the veil lifted from your eyes and you see things in a whole new (and not necessarily better) way? Yeah. It was just more of a wake up call than anything else.

9. What do you think is the biggest difference between men and women?
Men have been conditioned to rein in their emotions and then they tend to come out sideways, like in yelling or ranting. At least women are able to be more open about how they feel.

1. When you go to Wowmart, what one thing do you get every single time, besides a funky-wheeled squeaking cart full of frustration?

I don’t visit Walmart much mostly because there isn’t one close by. The last one I went to was in Tahlequah, OK and there I bought some breakfast bars, coffee and sundry coffee items and water. Excitement, no?

2. What is something that people are currently “into” that you just don’t get or appreciate?
Hmm, let me see. Football. Not that people are “currently” into it but all the back and forth stuff on Twitter about this college or that one makes me want to yawn. After watching hockey, football feels like it’s in slow motion. Too much stop and start and they all act like it’s some big ass deal. I don’t care at all.

3. What is something that really hoists your sail that other people might feel “ho-hum” about? I’d say sekrit boyfriend but you’d be amazed at how much sail he hoists. :-) To me, it feels like my own little world but then I see how much others across the country and even outside the US are into him and I smile. Boyfriend has a long career in front of him. YEY!

4. Favorite song to sing in the shower or car?
“Straight Ahead” by sekrit one. I love that song – it’s high energy, it has my favorite lyric of all time in it and it just rocks out. Love it.

“I got questions for you / you got answers untrue / I can walk these circles all night long …”

5. A really great salad must have this ingredient:
French fries? No? Shoot. Feta cheese then. I love greek salads.

6. What advice in a nutshell would you give to new bloggers?
When Lauren first dragged me into blogging (circa 2002) we used to laugh that we were the only ones who read each other’s blogs. I learned that I wrote because it was what I liked to do. Even if no one read it and I was blogging into the abyss, I’d still write. I’d say that to any other blogger: write because you want to. Write because it comes out of you and it’s just who you are. Open up that faucet and let it pour through you. If nothing else, you will learn a lot about yourself that way. I am thankful that I had the blog going through many of life’s challenges and adventures. I go back now and read some of the posts and can see how far I’ve come from that place.

7. What was the alternate name that your parents almost named you? Do you wish they had chosen it instead of the one they gave you?
Mom wanted the name Karen, Dad wanted Rita. I have no clue how they ended up with Lisa. I never did hear what name it would have been had I been a boy. I probably should ask my own Godmommy of Love since she’s the only one left who would know that.

8. What in your life are you waiting for?
LOL The moment when I start pulling all my shit together and head off in the direction I know is out there for me. I expect a banner and balloons from my guides and teachers saying “She finally gets it!!” heheh Wait for me, guys. I’m doggy-paddling as fast as I can.

9. You get a package in the mail. What is it, and who is it from?
Books from Amazon. I swore I wouldn’t get any more all summer and I did pretty well but got a gift cert for Amazon and of course, had to buy a book (or two).

10. Today–what song represents you?
“If you could read my mind, love, what a tale my thoughts could tell.” – Gordon Lightfoot

11. What is one thing that blogging has taught you about yourself?
Through pretty consistent writing, I’ve learned that when I am in a flow, I really do tell a good story. I’m not quite Dooce nor The Bloggess (You have to go right now and read her hilarious take on a GPS – I laughed so hard that I was crying.) but I do have my own little way with words.

12. How are you going to (or how did you) choose the clothes you’re wearing today?
What do they say about you in general or specifically how you’re feeling today?

I always imagine Clinton and Stacey looking at my wardrobe and rolling their eyes. Today I plan on wearing jeans and a t-shirt because it’s comfortable and clean. I am feeling crappy in my body lately and I can hide in these clothes. God help me if I were to be confronted by the “360 mirror of truth”.

Stolen from my favorite blogger, as usual.

When was the last time you cried?
I cry easily and often so I’m sure it wasn’t that long ago. For me, tears are my body’s way of releasing energy (I suppose it’s that way for lots of people) so I cry when I’m angry, sad, happy or if something moves me.

What made you angry this week?
Well, it was last week really and it’s the incident with the co-worker who called me the devil in disguise. I am still pissed at her for that. I’m not sure I want to get over it. (I will, but feel happy in my righteousness at the moment. Is that a sign that I really *am* Satan? LOL)

What was the happiest day of your life?
I am glad to count many among these. The first David Cook show where I stood right at the edge of the stage close enough to touch him was pretty amazing. I’ll say that one.

Have you ever laughed until you cried?
If you have ever seen Eddie Izzard in concert, then you’d know the answer to this.

Have you ever laughed so hard you peed your pants?
Almost but not quite (thankfully!)

Have you ever been suspicious of someone?
NO! Why are you asking me this question? What’s really going on behind your words? Are you trying to corner me?

What was the last thing you envied?
My friend Charlie’s discipline. He was told by his doc to change his diet for cholesterol reasons and he jumped into that task with glee. When he sets his mind to something, he does it. Me? If I can even set my mind to something, by the time I get around to doing it, I’m bored.

Are you sarcastic?
Not as much as I used to be, alas. If I’m around someone who is, it will come out a bit more.

Have you ever had your heart broken?
What a silly question! Of course.

What is the last thing that disgusted you?
I happened upon a television show about people who have strange body abnormalities and this person had elephantitis of the leg and it was truly hideous. I was so grossed out but at the same time had enormous compassion for what this woman was going through in her life. I. cannot. imagine.

Have you ever been truly afraid because of a scary movie?
While watching “Carrie” in the movie theatre in 1976, I somehow managed to get from my chair to my boyfriend’s lap in record time because of one scene. (If you’ve seen it, I bet you can guess what the scene was.) I won’t watch any kind of Exorcist movies because I know I will have nightmares for weeks.

What is your biggest regret?
Certain relationships in which I wasted a lot of time that I could have been using finding someone who didn’t have rage issues.

Have you ever had an obsession?
All three of you know the answer to this question.

Do you feel pity toward others who have less than you?
Pity isn’t the right word. I feel enormous compassion and try hard to do what I can to help them if I am led to do so.

What is your biggest fear?
Biggest or most irrational? Biggest is being totally homeless and destitute. Most irrational is looking like a fool with my heart hanging out there for all to see.

What was the last lie you told?
I feigned interest in that co-worker’s child’s school day. Yes, I am pure evil.

Have you ever cheated in a game among friends?
During Trivial Pursuit with Kim and Sal, I was driven to cheat. Don’t ask.

Who was the last person you flirted with?
“Sid Flagelman” – the nice little old man in my office. I’m not sure if it was for my benefit or his.

Have you ever seen an image that made you physically ill?
That elephantitis show sure had me close to it. Blargh!

Saturday 9: The Waiting

1. Have you ever stayed online for a very long time waiting for someone?
As you all know, I’m online a lot so it may just seem like I’m waiting for them when really I’m surfing and writing and stuff. (short answer: yes)

2. How do you eat oreos?
Dipped in a cold glass of milk

3. Are you cocky?
Only in my pretend world. Not so much IRL.

4. Did you have an imaginary friend as a kid?
No. But I did have a baby doll named Angel and I loved her fiercely and unreservedly. And even brushed her hairless head during mass to amuse myself. (See? Even then I was a religious renegade!)

5. What t.v. station do you watch the most?
I don’t watch much television but I’d say MSNBC if pressed.

6. Have you ever seen the ocean?
I live near it and wouldn’t have it any other way. I love the ocean. I love a puddle. Just make sure I’m by some water.

7. Have you ever been hospitalized?
Twice: tonsils when I was three and gastric bypass when I was 37. I don’t like hospitals at all. They smell odd and I’m always worried that I will hear people retching or dying.

8. What’s your favorite brand of rootbeer?
There was a cool drive in place in Baltimore called “Stewarts” and when I was a kid, family members would pack in the station wagon and drive there for frosty mugs of the stuff. And the mugs were so neat that people tried to steal them. Yes, we were caught and had to give it back.

9. Could you live without a computer?
I could, I suppose, but why would I want to?

————-
I have a small rant that’s bubbling up. Not sure if I will post it but it has to do with one of the two people who represent my shadow side. I talked about that in a post a while back. This person I have to see just about every day. Those of you who know me (even just from here) know that I don’t get angry easily but there are certain buttons that, when pushed, cause me to get all confronty and whatnot. And yes, she pushed a button and I am pissed. Details to follow.

Wherein I win at life

BestBlog

My dear blogging sister and Cubbies lover, The Gal Herself, bestowed upon yours truly this lovely award saying this:

Ah, my Snarkela. Like me, Lisa is a fan girl. Her love of David Cook reminds me of mine for Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Greg Maddux, Bruce Willis, Jon Hamm … (Is it me or is it getting warm in here?) Like me, she loves her furry roommates. However, unlike me, she has a genuinely mystic side, and that informs her special view of the world.

(Takes a bow)

Thank you, Gal. You are truly one of my bestest blog buddies. So I give the award right back to you and here’s why:

* You write often, sometimes more than once a day. Your posts are like snippets of your life – some are longer and tell a fuller story (your mom or your “unusual” sister), and some are quick bites of info about your job, your workout, your cat and of course, your beloved Cubs. But they are always well written with an eye for detail and impeccable grammar. That makes my heart happy.

* We share similar outlooks on things (politics, for example) but you are more vocal about it on your blog than I am here. (I’m more that way on Facebook, I think.)

* You “get” the true and deep meaning of arm porn.

* You introduced me to “Mad Men” (Will we all be tweeting while watching on Sunday? heh)

* And you are a wonderful fellow blogger, always leaving comments that say more than “Great answers!” or some such crappola. (tee hee)

There is no other blogger I follow as I do you. (’tis true, my dear!)

For all these reasons and many others, you’re the only one I’m going to share this with now. Just because. So there. :)

And now, back to your regularly scheduled whining.

With one big exception that kept me sane and happy (don’t ask), today was a huge spazz-out for me. I cannot handle chaos as I walk in the door to work. You’d think after a bizillion years in this industry, I’d get it but five people pulling me in all directions right as I start my day makes me want to lug out out a sledgehammer and start beating on people. I yelled at one of my dearest co-workers (and then apologized because she just happened to be in the way of my meltdown and it was totally not about her) and this cannot continue. I think it’s because I have been taking a med for poison ivy that is messing with my other meds and causing this. And yes, we will be stopping those meds posthaste.

BTW, got pics of Dancing Boy so will work on a post about him. I wish you could have seen the joy on this kid’s face. It totally lit up the room. His gangly, hiding behind his hair sullen teen cousin? Not so much joy except when some song with the words “Skeet, Skeet, Skeet” came on. (Found it: Get Low by Lil Jon.) And I can’t believe this boy sang these lyrics while dancing with his mom! At a wedding!! Oh my.

That’s all for me.

Signing off from the couch that Gal and I share (the one full of love and cat hair),
Me

PS: How awesome is this picture? I had guinea peegs but never got around to making them little crocheted hats and stuff. (That’s a good thing, I’m thinking.)

Some days you just need a little head coverage.
